I am a self-proclaimed tweezer phobe, happily sustained with a few plucks here and there bi-monthly. Mention waxing or threading and I'll only roll my naturally framed eyes. However, Lakshmi Hair Studio in Old City is unavoidable to passersby, myself included—its massive loft-like windows draw you into the organic-centric salon. Perhaps it was the homemade iced tea, but in minutes I was upstairs about to have my eyebrows threaded under the trained hands of Stacey. With a small spool, her hands danced around a floss-like string and carefully lay each thread in straight lines to pull up perfectly precise areas of hair. While it was almost painless, I felt as if I was going to leave Greta Garbo bare as the threading continued. But after my first glance in the mirror it was apparent Stacey kept my shape and only made my eyebrows look more clean, precise and gorgeous, not bare or red (the signature mark of dogged wax aestheticians). Looks like some trends are worth following.
