Category: Museums
Neighborhood: West Philly/University City

Description: ICA has long been the no nonsense home of the avant garde in the city. Indeed, for decades it has introduced artists on the verge of breaking big and those who already have done so, both locally plus from around the country and the globe. Every exhibition gives you more than an eyeful; it stuffs your brain with all kinds of new ideas. This place is just plain lean, mean and oh so scalpel sharp.

Wed - Fri: 12pm - 8pm
Sat - Sun: 11am - 5pm

Vast, animated expanses of fractured, rhythmic planes, equally informed by television test band patterns, African textiles, post-colonial discourse, sensory overload, and digital technology, speak to a contemporary experience of dislocation and decenteredness.

For her performance-based video works, she sets up a difficult physical task—a precarious tower of strung-together furniture to climb, for instance—dons lipstick and a fancy dress, and documents herself making the attempt.
